Enriching Our Lives Through Mindfulness

Mindfulness can enrich, empower, and enliven virtually all aspects of our lives. If the structure of our lives revolves around staying busy, whether by being productive or seeking distractions, we may be missing out on the full experience of the present moment. Mindfulness can help us to slow down and expand our capacity to receive the richness of the present moment.

We can cultivate mindfulness through daily intentional practices, and those practices can take many forms. Making a practice of mindfully eating lunch can serve as a reset in the middle of our busy day. As we slow down and savor, we open to the sensual pleasures of eating, the sight, scents, tastes, and textures of food. Coming back to work, we may feel that time has slowed down, we have improved clarity, and our mood is uplifted.

By carving out intentional moments like mindful eating, we strengthen the muscle of mindfulness. Just as structured physical exercise primes our body for daily physical tasks, meditation practice helps us to be mindful in our day to day activities. Through mindfulness, we develop greater awareness of the peace and joy that is available to us in our daily lives and our ability to experience those positive feelings.

To support your mindfulness journey, I’ve curated a collection of mindfulness websites for you. These resources include free guided meditations with trusted teachers, as well as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. MBSR is an eight-week evidence-based training that uses mindfulness to address anxiety, depression, and pain.
